While other manufacturing jobs in the USA are fading away right before our eyes, the electronics industry continues to go strong. Jobs are available for people of all skill levels and in all fields, from those just starting out in the manufacturing field to those who have been welders or operators or managers their entire lives.
To make matters even better, there is a whole new section of manufacturing just starting to open up which is called the green electronics sector. This is the time to get in on the ground floor of this once in a lifetime manufacturing job boom. While the economy remains shaky, competition is fierce for available positions, but by the time things get back to normal, those who have spent the last few years working on solar panel circuitry or high efficiency energy saving electronics will have the leg up over others applying for the same type of positions.
Even with the bad economy, there is a large number of manufacturing job openings currently available in the rapidly growing field of electronics. Many companies, especially those based in other countries, are eager for new employees to meet the ever-growing demand for their products.
As the demand is so high in this particular field of manufacturing, companies are doing all they can to attract and retain the right type of employees. Many manufacturing plants have already switched over to an ergonomic setup to aid with worker health and morale, and some have begun incorporating natural light and even green space (plants, etc.) inside their manufacturing plants. The high-end industry of electronics manufacturing is not your grandfather's manufacturing plant! With unions going strong, competitive wages, benefits, and working conditions getting better every day, it is a surprise not many have set working in a manufacturing environment as their goal.
The best part, there will be more and more jobs available in this highly lucrative industry. As the knowledge of electronics improves, inventors and companies will constantly come out with a steady stream, not just of new products, but also of new versions of each of those products. When you think of a computer, do you think of the latest and greatest technological wonder to hit the market? Or do you think of the three-year-old computer you have been sitting around at home?
It seems companies are constantly coming out with new versions of consumer electronics every month, and continuing to make, market and sell the old versions. We are talking only of the consumer electronics industry. The professional electronics game is just as fast moving, though less advertised. That said, if you can find a job producing the infrastructure for professional grade equipment, or even better yet, find a job manufacturing equipment for a company that has won itself a lucrative long term government contract, or one that is set to do just that in the near future, you will be in good shape indeed.
It is not just the production end of things, either. In any industry that is going as strongly as that of electronics manufacturing, someone has to be the one to do the paperwork and organize the labor force as well. Management positions are just as important in the field of electronics as in any other field of manufacturing. If you have years of experience on the production floor, know every inch of the industry, or fresh out of business school, you could find yourself a career in an electronics manufacturing management position, as a safety coordinator, or even a shipping organizer. It is just as important that the products assembled in a plant get to the right place in the right container, as that of being properly manufactured.
While most fields of manufacturing are in trouble, the high-speed world of electronics manufacturing continues to thrive and there is no sign of it slowing down any time soon. Competition for these lucrative jobs is fierce, but to the right person, a job in this industry can mean the next stepping-stone for a satisfying long career.
