Job Description:
Commercial Freight Operator role is part of a Global & Products Freight Operations Team responsible for providing professional freight operations to the Freight Traders. Freight Operators work closely with the Freight Traders to ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of all commodities for charters both in and out are essential in order to optimize the commercial benefits to the oil trading business and the P&L of the global freight trading team.
The role involves a fast moving and changing environment and Operators will work alongside a diverse, multi-cultured group of people. The work is varied and requires that individuals develop a thorough understanding of many aspects of the shipping and oil trading business, which forms a good foundation for a career in operations, chartering, supply or oil trading.
Conduct all freight operational activities promptly and professionally ensuring that all obligations and requirements under the charter party contract terms are met. This refers both to charters internally and with third parties.
Operators are expected to have a commercial mindset while scheduling and operating vessels to load and deliver cargoes along the value chain, as well as look out for opportunities to capitalize on opportunities and/or add value to supply chain.
Ensure the efficient operation of the time chartered vessel including the issuance of voyage orders, the correct preparation of cargo tanks and the issuance of Letters of Indemnity (LOIs) in accordance with charter party terms and conditions.
Deal with cargo and freight counter-parties, terminals and vessels on a regular basis regarding all post-deal activities ensuring all necessary operational information is passed on in good time and documentary requirements are met.
Ensure that we comply with regulatory and governmental requirements as well as adhere to Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE)/Safety guidelines.
Identify and maximize the embedded optionality within charter party agreements (i.e. laycans, demurrage rates, ship space parceling, ship swaps, backhaul opportunities)
Liaise with oil operators to ensure smooth operations to avoid supply disruption and to optimize vessel returns and usage.
Ensure that bunker procurement is optimized in terms of location and cost in close liaison with the freight trader and in line with STASCO policy and guidelines
Daily updates of RADAR tools for ship operations and records management to track P&L
Make cargo and vessel nominations, prepare and send voyage orders and monitor progress of vessels. Required to preempt issues and avoid any delays which could hit our bottom line.
assist freight traders in obtaining SAFE vetting and port clearances of spot ships and other spot charter administration.
Appoint independent inspectors, expeditors and ships agents.
Provide necessary documentation to charterers and terminals to ensure smooth and efficient clearance of Group controlled tonnage.
Liaise with Finance, providing them with timely, accurate data and documentation to facilitate smooth invoicing / payment of cargoes.
Be able to apply a continuous improvement and generate implementation ideas to improve global processes and ways of working.
Ensure that all data pertaining to cargo or voyage claims/demurrage are recorded in the trading systems to enable efficient handling by the relevant oil claims/demurrage department.

Requirements:
Legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Minimum 3 years related work experience.
Bachelor’s degree in a business or maritime discipline is preferred.
Previous Freight Operations experience within Chemicals/Parcelling trade is preferred.
Previous sailing experience on tankers is preferred.
Knowledge and experience of trading & supply-related operations would be a plus.
Prior experience in ship operations management or broker experience preferred.
Evidence of working successfully in a fast-moving commercial environment and ability to deliver.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage tasks with competing deadlines.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment with minimal supervision.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Aptitude to learn quickly.
Strong organizational skills, demonstrated ability to meet daily deadlines, and attention to detail are essential to meet the departments demanding schedules and goals.
