Summary:
This position will work collaboratively as a leader in a cross-discipline technical team of engineers, programmers, designers, controls vendors, and technicians in the development and implementation of control and automation systems for Tyson Prepared Foods facilities. The candidate will have a history of demonstrated success in manufacturing automation design, robotics and integration, troubleshooting, engineering, programming, and consulting. The candidate will have exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to make strategic decisions in a team environment. They will be professional, proactive, resourceful, and highly motivated with good communication skills and the ability to work in a high output environment. This position is responsible for ensuring that their department meet annual goals and KPI targets by assisting in prioritizing of workload and providing a clear vision. Leading small technical teams through complex scenarios while arriving at the best function, value, reliability, and productivity decisions are a key component of this role.Requirements:Education: A Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent experience.
Experience: At least 8 years of control engineering experience with the ability to program PLC’s, HMI’s and SCADA control systems. The candidate should have a background in reading electrical control schematics, developing sequence of operation and converting into automation code. The candidate should be capable of mentoring others making advanced enhancements, troubleshooting, and testing for existing applications.Computer Skills: Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft Office, Visio, AutoCAD. PLC and HMI Languages: Proficient in one or more languages including Modicon Unity, Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, or Inductive Automation Ignition. Microsoft SQL Server database experience a plus.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Travel: 30 - 40% to Tyson facilities for planning activities, progress reviews, and start-up of control and automation systems. Vendor visits for planning and factory acceptance tests will be occasionally required with potential for international travel.Managerial Responsibilities: will manage direct report(s) and at times other team members and contractors on project deliverables. Dotted line responsibility for other controls engineers within prepared engineering team and projects they support. Position will facilitate communication, standardized approach, best practice sharing, and a team environment within controls engineers reporting up through the project teams. Will lead effort to standardize controls and automation processes while acting as a liaison between the corporate IT Automation team, Prepared Foods Engineering, and other functions. As application owner, will manage all aspects of prepared foods plant automation help desk support. Special Skills: The Sr. Manager, Controls and Automation should have excellent programming and design skills in PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems; strong history of mentoring and leadership; and a working knowledge in the ANSI/ISA standards. The successful candidate should be able to accomplish systems analysis tasks across the Tyson enterprise; have advanced knowledge of control systems design; be able to complete complex coding requirements within project time constraints; and be willing to support installed control systems for emergency purposes outside of normal business hours. Ensure annual goals and KPI targets are obtained. Monitor and adjust department strategies as needed.
SCADA programming experience, preferably Inductive Automation – Ignition. Experience with interfacing to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), various Cloud and IIoT platforms a plus.
Database management experience, preferably MS SQL Server.
8 year of PLC / HMI programming experience – preferably Rockwell / Allen-Bradley
10 years of manufacturing experience.
Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) operations, wiring, and configuration. Allen-Bradley Power-Flex experience preferred.
Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) operations, wiring, and programming. Allen-Bradley Logix platform preferred.
Experience with Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) operations, wiring, and programming. Rockwell PanelView Plus / FactoryTalk View platform preferred.
Experience with installation and implementation of process controls networks such as Ethernet/IP.
Experience with Rockwell/AB motion control hardware and software.
Robotic experience with Fanuc and ABB systems a plus.
Familiarity with ISO 13849 Safety Standard.
Familiarity with NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety Requirements in the Workplace.
Understanding of electrical control design principles.
Identifying and leading automation integrators without assistance as well as the ability to direct electrical contractors on the job site.
Food processing knowledge and control experience a plus.
Ignition experience and certification preferred.
Ability to evaluate and hire qualified talent and develop team members to grow and excel.
Ideally, this position will be located in our Fayetteville, Arkansas office. We may be able to consider some remote candidates if they are located in: Cincinnati Metro, Dallas Metro, Chicago Metro, Downers Grove, IL, or Kansas City Metro.
