The Associate Director of Advanced Manufacturing Automation will serve as a key leader in identifying and driving implementation of automation technology platforms across the manufacturing network to enable strategic business objectives. This position reports to the Senior Director of Process Analytics & Engineering, Manufacturing Sciences & Technology, within Bristol-Myers Squibb's Global Product Development and Supply.
This matrix leadership position will partner closely with enterprise and site IT teams while representing the voice-of-the-customer from stakeholders in Operations, MS&T, Quality, and Supply Chain, to shape manufacturing strategies and evolve BMS’ manufacturing capabilities via rational adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Working with stakeholders to identify opportunities for harmonization of automation approaches across manufacturing sites to achieve improved efficiencies and business outcomes
Developing automation strategies to enable faster commercialization of BMS pipeline products
Identify opportunities, create implementation roadmaps, and catalyze adoption of advanced automation solutions (e.g. model predictive control, robotics, AI, etc.)
Champion opportunities for implementation of robotics across the value chain
Serving as Business Owner for enterprise manufacturing applications (e.g. Enterprise MES, automation platforms, etc.), representing the needs and requirements of end-users from Global Manufacturing Operations, in partnership with the IT System Owner
Provide input into automation lifecycle documentation for enterprise solutions and automation design standards
Provide input, review and approval of policies and procedures associated with the commissioning and qualification of process automation systems and manufacturing related computerized systems
Provide a broad, innovative and compelling vision for the future of BMS manufacturing, across our full manufacturing network. Act as a catalyst of change and energize others to embrace and drive change across the network
Participate in growing the organization’s technical capability, including mentoring, guiding and helping more junior team members as well as adding to the body of knowledge of the department
Promote and drive safety into systems and processes
Remain current with industry trends and regulatory requirements for automated manufacturing systems
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Engineering or Life Science; graduate degree a plus
10 years plant automation experience, GMP manufacturing preferred
Proven record of technical leadership, including the ability to influence, motivate, and drive change
Project management experience required. Design and startup experience highly valued
Requires the ability to effectively work with geographically dispersed stakeholders and project teams, influencing and leading across a matrix organization
Demonstrated strategic planning experience preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in programming and troubleshooting of SCADA, PLC systems, Computerized Control Systems, and Vision Systems highly desired
Advanced knowledge of industrial robotic and control systems
Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization
Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and be an agent for change
Good organizational, project management and presentation skills; with the ability to interact with all levels within the organization, as well as with vendors
Self-motivated with a process improvement mindset and the ability to understand the big picture, but also break that down into smaller actionable steps
Up to 20% travel may be required to support this network role
