Job Description:

The primary purpose is to be the point person for natural gas weekend scheduling activity in the Northeast regions. This includes but is not limited to checking scheduled quantity reports each cycle and making necessary changes to ensure flows meet our deal obligations.

Will work closely with traders and within the trading guidelines each weekend to maximize value add and minimize profit leakage. Will add value to the business by applying personal experience and commercial operational expertise.

The focal person must know NE pipelines and NE Power Plants: Algonquin, Iroquois, Millennium, Dominion Cove, Dominion Transmission, Tennessee, Texas Eastern, Granite, Columbia Gas Transmission, Empire, Transco, and National Fuel.

The role will assist operations team with scheduling duties on Monday’s and Friday’s and will be a focal point in resolving weekend issues.

The gas business in North America is a dynamic, fast paced and business critical trading environment. The gas day runs from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. CST with five NAESB scheduling deadlines throughout the day and sometime required to do post-cycle nominations which is due at 08:00 a.m. CST for the prior day. The typical work-day is from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. CST with the expectation that any intraday changes required will be completed by the deadlines outlined below.

All scheduling deadlines are in Central Standard Time Zone:

Timely due at 01:00 p.m.

Evening due at 06:00 p.m.

Intraday 1 due at 10:00 a.m.

Intraday 2 due at 02:30 p.m.

Intraday 3 due at 07:00 p.m.

This position is for the Weekend Natural Gas Scheduling in the Northeast Region. With the complexity of the business, there may be a high volume of trades, dealing with multiple traders, volumes, transportation, multiple locations, financial risk and exposure, commodity complexity, and regulatory requirements of transactions.

The successful candidate will need to maintain a sustained proactive approach to all accountabilities of the role to ensure Weekend Gas Operations are operated in an effective and efficient way, with emphasis on Operational Excellence.

As part of the Gas Operations strategy and effort to further embed a continuous improvement mindset, the successful applicant should demonstrate aptitude to learn additional natural gas scheduling systems, processes, and new applications.

The incumbent must be able to proactively collaborate with a wide and diverse set of stakeholders in a constructive manner for the delivery of all business goals.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline preferred or equivalent years of industry related experience.

Qualified candidate should have at least 5 years of natural gas scheduling experience.

Subject Matter Expert on several natural gas pipelines.

Amenable to work during weekend and holiday work as well as on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Anticipates needs on team and proactively provides support and direction to other team members.

Commercial mindset and ability to work effectively with trade desk in transport optimization, segmentation of pipeline capacity and realization of incremental value through commercial operational decisions.

Proven track record of performance and delivery

Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines while assisting others.

Ability to work independently and within a team environment with minimal to no supervision.

Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.

Aptitude to learn new natural gas scheduling systems and other applications quickly.

Highly developed organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet daily deadlines, and attention to detail are essential to meet the departments demanding schedules and goals.

A highly commercial mindset is required to maximize value add and minimize profit leakage.

Flexibility to shift workload and cover desks with minimal notice.

Established capabilities for assignments or team projects with the demonstrated ability to deliver.

Commercial Acumen:

Ability to analyse market information, communicate and act on trading implications

Commercially adept with demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

Compliance:

Knowledge of regulatory requirements for Natural Gas Scheduling preferred.

Continuous Improvement:

Knowledge of LEAN practices and continuous improvement would be preferred; ability to suggest and implement process changes and new procedures.

Champions continuous improvements (CI) by proactively supporting the forward plan for maintaining and improving systems, tools, data and processes as well as sharing best practices.

Scheduling Gas Storage & Transportation:

Knowledge and prior experience on several natural gas pipelines in key NE markets preferred.

Advanced Knowledge of Shell’s Equity supply, gathering lines, processing plants and downstream optionality is preferred.

Aptitude to learn additional natural gas scheduling systems and other applications quickly.

STN Systems:

Knowledge of internal system; Endur / G-motion to capture gas flows daily, experience preferred.

Advanced Excel User with knowledge of formulas, look-ups, linking, pivot tables and macros.

Knowledge in data systems analysis; able to identify system errors, identify reason - SQL skills are preferred.

Experienced user of IT systems and knowledgeable on IT landscapes.
