PHYSICAL WORK ADDRESS: TPWD Purtis Creek State Park, 14225 FM 316 North, Eustace, TX 75124
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Under the direction of the Park Manager and Lead Ranger, this position is responsible for all phases of maintenance and repairs to facilities and buildings, including carpentry, electrical and plumbing, grounds, and equipment at Purtis Creek State Park. Performs daily routine cleaning of facilities grounds and equipment. Operates all types of equipment including hand tools, electrical tools, power tools, power mowers, trucks, tractors, and other gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. Provides visitor services including interpretation of the park's natural and cultural resources and the enforcement of park rules and regulations. Assists with the preparation of reports, purchases, camper registration, and collection of fees. Assists in organizing, training, and coordinating the work of hourly employees and volunteers including Community Service Workers. Serves as the Back-Up Utility Plant Operator (UPO) and assists in the operation, maintenance, and repairs to the Water and Wastewater systems. Responsible for regulatory compliance in all utility operations and completion of required reports and laboratory testing as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience:
Three years facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.
Licensure:
Must possess a valid class A Texas Commercial driver's license OR must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class C Texas driver's license and convert to a class A Commercial driver's license within 6 months of employment;
Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a class D Water and/or Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ);
NOTE (1): Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license and compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's (TCEQ) Criminal Conviction Guidelines;
NOTE (2): Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and compliance with State and Federal regulations including the Department of Transportation (DOT) required drug and alcohol testing.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
Experience:
Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Experience working with the public;
Experience working with water or wastewater systems;
Customer service and public relations experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks;
Knowledge of general maintenance, grounds, and landscaping techniques;
Knowledge of park operations and maintenance practices;
Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment, reporting, and compliance;
Knowledge of routine equipment and vehicle maintenance;
Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems;
Knowledge of building materials;
Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook;
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;
Skill in using various hand and power tools and other mechanical equipment;
Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;
Skill in making independent, sound, and timely decisions;

Ability to perform manual labor. including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Required to work in a high visitation public park with overnight camping;
Required to work 40 hours per week includes various schedules, with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays;
Required to adjust to changing schedules;
Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations;
Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;
Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Required to operate a State vehicle;
Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;
Required to pass drug screening prior to employment;
Required to pass a previous employment drug testing history verification for all CDL positions held within the past two years;
Subject to random, post-accident and reasonable cause testing for the duration of employment;
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
