Job Description:

The Control Systems Engineer in a run and maintain role is responsible for the process control system for a set of operating units. This includes base layer control systems (control strategies, DCS hardware/software, instrumentation), safety systems (interlock logic, SIS hardware/software), and operational interfaces (graphics, alarm management).

Supports the health, safety, security and environmental direction and goals for the site.
Complies with Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Technical Standards/Procedures/Orders, DEPs (Design and Engineering Practices).
Performs the role of Technical Assurance Coordinator for Control Systems Management of Change (MOC) in their area of support.
Assures that existing base layer control systems and safety systems are functioning as designed and proactively seeks to improve.

Troubleshoots base layer and safety systems (hardware and software)
Provides technical assistance to inspectors and technicians
Provides training to operations on control strategies and SIS interlock logic
Supports projects, plant changes, and on-going operational needs in line with operational objectives.
identifies process and operating changes impact on control systems performance.
Tunes base layer control loops.
Identifies new information and control applications that enhance profitability and reliability. Develops functional specifications and detail design for these additions or modifications.
Collects and reports metrics on base layer and advanced control performance

Ensures base layer controls system and safety system documentation and reporting systems comply with corporate policies and successful practices. Ensures all required documentation is updated / completed according to MOC requirements.
Participates in the operating area Manage Threats & Opportunities work process to expose control systems gaps as well as opportunities for improvement. Develops short term and long-term mitigations.
Provides proactive communications to customers and stakeholders regarding control systems real time issues/actions. Participates in prioritization efforts and long-term planning with the operations support staff.


The CSE is expected to have a functional working knowledge of instrumentation, distributed control systems hardware and software, safety instrumented systems (solver logic and hardware), process operation and theory, alarm management, process data historians, data visualization/trending tools, key quality specifications for feeds and products, environment compliance variables, and major economic variables and their impact to site profitability.

TThe Geismar Chemical Plant’s distributed control system is Honeywell with several TDC3000 (LCN/UCN) systems and multiple Experion (C300) systems. The site uses Triconex (Tricon, Trident) systems for SIS.

Requirements:


Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
With at least three (3) years of process automation and controls experience in a manufacturing facility
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated knowledge of practical work experience
Experience with Honeywell DCS (TDC3000, Experion)
Experience with Triconex safety system platform is a plus
Knowledge of safety reviews (PHA, HEMP, LOPA); participation a plus.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Experience supporting base level control and instrumentation (pneumatic, electronic, DCS, etc.), including control algorithm implementation and loop tuning.
Knowledge of corporate policies and industry standards.
Effective Communication Skills (Oral/Written).
Able to work with diverse groups.
