ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
This position is the primary resource for coaching counseling and directing a production team. This position is responsible for ensuring the production departments goals are met concerning, but not limited to quality, quantity and cost. The Team Leader assures that operations are performed according to Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices. The Team Leader is responsible for assisting in the interview and selection of employees, training, counseling and conducting performance evaluations, as well as ensuring compliance with Company rules/regulations, and administering progressive discipline.
Direct the work activities of the team and allocate team resources in order to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production standards.
Supervise team members to identify and resolve quality defects, machine efficiency losses, material problems, etc. Work with team mechanic to resolve mechanical problems contributing to machine downtime. Supplement the efforts of the effectively interface with Quality Control Inspectors.
Assure accuracy of shift production reports, to include:
Production Logs
Line Reports
Waste Reporting
Material Control Reports/Systems
Re-Work Sheets
Quality Defects
Upon startup of new/revised product, record lot number and date of product component change and provide physical product samples to the Production Manager.
Develop and effectively recommend team staffing assignments in order to achieve optimum skill balance and work distribution within the team.
Provide constructive input pertaining to product/process pre-production activities and insure that production startup, new/revised products or processes can be satisfactorily handled by team members. Conduct pre-production team meeting on an as needed basis.
Train and/or direct the efforts of Trainers in order to train team members to effectively perform all necessary product assembly, quality, safety, materials control, and production reporting functions.
Responsible for the identification of machine problems and the effective coordination of mechanical support and material handling services in order to achieve machine production, quality, and waste controls.
Take corrective action, including recommending disciplinary actions in order to resolve individual team member performance issues which do not conform to established Standard Operating Procedures, policies and practices.
Set high standards of professional conduct relative to adherence to safe work practices, product quality, personal work habits, positive attitude, housekeeping and Company policies. Effectively recommend reward (e.g. merit increases) for the attainment thereof.
Establish a mutually supportive and effective interface with other production teams, their Team Leaders, and production support services.
Report and take necessary immediate action for all industrial accidents or injuries, regardless of how minor.
Responsible for periodically developing a written team improvement plan to achieve production goals and standards.
Responsible for administering progressive discipline procedures up to and including recommendations for employee termination.
May be required to perform individual team member work (e.g. machine operations) from time to time as circumstances warrant.
Weekend overtime as necessary
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
Meet or exceed Quality, Safety, and Productivity goals set for the line centers
Timely and accurate completion of production batch records
Effective verbal and written communication with supporting departments to adhere to the production schedule
Managing line center teams ensuring optimum staffing and line center goals are met following quality and safety procedures
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
High School Diploma or GED; College degree within a technical discipline preferred
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Read, write and speak English
Basic math skills
General understanding of manufacturing principles
Skilled in the use of PCs including supporting software such as excel, word, and other data base programs.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
2-3 years machine operator experience
2 years leadership experience is highly desirable
Working in a medical device and/or OTC drug-manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Possess good communication skills, both written and verbal
Handles conflicts in professional manner
Willing to work overtime and weekends as required
Willing to train on CGMP requirements and company policies and procedures
WORKING CONDITIONS
Manufacturing Ambient Temperature Control Environment (3rd Shift 11:00 pm to 7:00 am)
