Job Details:
This position is responsible for all primary and secondary packaging related activities and projects in its respective Fresh Meats Business Unit (Beef, Pork, or PPI). This role will be the Packaging SME and cross-functional leader for Operations, FSQA, Production Planning, Regulatory and Labeling, Sales and Marketing, R&D, Procurement, Accounting, and IT. Projects and activities include but are not limited to:
Plant Operations Support – Provide technical support for all packaging related issues across multiple plants by performing root cause analysis, problem solving, and executing countermeasures for packaging material and equipment issues.
Packaging Specifications – Create and maintain efficient and robust packaging standards for products and packaging materials through optimization analysis, testing, and database management.
Standard Costing and Packaging Variance – Establish standard costs for packaging specifications while minimizing any resulting positive and negative cost variances.
Sustainability / New Product Development – Lead innovation, growth, and sustainability by testing, validating, and realizing new packaging materials, configurations, and equipment.
Process Improvement / Cost Savings – Propose, validate, and capture process improvement and cost savings opportunities driven by material changes, equipment upgrades, labor reduction, and other efficiency gains.
Automation – Optimize the business for large scale automation by driving standardization and reducing SKU variation in packaging configurations, and implement cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions to improve processing capability, speed, and reliability.
Requirements:
Education – Bachelor’s degree preferred in engineering or equivalent combination of education and industry experience required. Certification in Operational Excellence or Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt is desirable.
Experience – 5 years of experience, knowledge, and understanding of plant operations and packaging processes required. Prior experience in the areas of flexible, corrugated, and packaging processes is desirable.
Computer Skills – Strong computer skills are required. Proficient use of Excel pivot tables and formulas is required to manipulate large datasets. Experience with SQL and Power BI is desirable.
Communication Skills – Excellent verbal, nonverbal, and technical skills are required for effective communication while in the office, in the plant, or via email, instant message, text, phone calls, and video conferencing.
Supervisory – Effective management and good working relationships with indirect reports at each plant are required.
Growth Mindset – Ability to self-teach new skills, learn from others, receive constructive feedback, and seek out challenging assignments is required.
Travel:
Extensive domestic travel is required. 25 trips per year.
During the pandemic, travel is minimized when possible.
Advanced planning, effective communication, and strong relationships with each plant are highly encouraged to minimize travel and promote a better work-life balance.
