Water Treatment Plant Operator:
Under
the direct supervision of the Water Treatment Plant Lead Operator the Water
Treatment Plant Operator controls treatment plant machines and equipment to
purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use by
performing the following duties.
The Water Treatment Plant is a 24 (
twenty-four
) hour 7 (seven) day per week operation facility and requires the following duties.
Duties include, but not
limited to, the following:
·
Protects
the public health
·
Runs
process control on incoming raw water
·
Sets
dosages on chemicals and disinfectants using chemical feed pumps and
chlorinators
·
Adjust
incoming raw water flow according to the demand of the system
·
Record
untreated water use in production and does basic water lab analysis such as
turbidity, Ph, hardness, chlorides, alkalinity, total organic compounds, total
dissolved solids, and chlorine residuals
·
Store
clean treated water in ground storage tanks ready for distribution
·
Work
with toxic chemicals used in the treatment process
·
Backwash
filters to remove settle solids accumulated on filter bed
·
Remove
sludge from treatment units and disposes
·
Maintain
system pressure, monitor elevated water storage tanks
·
Does
mechanical, electrical and instrumentation on treatment units
·
Collects
water distribution samples, submit to state lab
·
Keeps
chemical inventory and orders when needed
·
Daily,
weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually record keeping
·
Handles customer complaints
·
Other
duties as assigned
Minimum
Qualifications:
·
High
School diploma
·
Valid Texas Driver’s
License
·
Must have or be able to obtain
TCEQ license within one (1) year of employment if not currently licensed.
This position will require additional certifications
as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Membrane filtration experience preferred.
·
Ability
to read, follow directions and complete basic reports
·
Ability
to write routine reports and correspondence
·
Ability
to add and subtract and use calculator
·
Ability of apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
furnished in written, oral, or diagram
form.
Ability to deal with problems
involving several concrete variables on standardized situations.
·
While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand,
walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop,
kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear.
The
employee frequently is required to climb or balance.
The employee is occasionally required to sit.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this
include close vision.

The
employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical
parts, high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather
conditions
The employee is frequently exposed
to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally
exposed to extreme cold.
The noise level
in the work environment is usually moderate.

Ability
to work flexible hours, to include, various work shifts to meet the demands of
the operations of the Water Plant.
This position of employment requires
satisfactory job performance of six-month probation from starting date. This
position requires State of Texas (TCEQ) licensing.
This employee must pass all licensing requirements to successfully complete his/her employment expectations.
