The Role – Head of Quality (Technology)
We are currently looking for an experienced Head of Quality to join our Commercial team.
This is a newly created senior role within our structure and a great opportunity to bring your in–depth experience as a Head of Quality to Bensons. You'll be involved with product development, technical and quality aspects of collections within your designated categories. This will involve working with the buyers and product innovation team to fulfil development briefs, ensuring product launches are achieved within the timeframes required.
You will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, including safety, legality, quality, product development, manufacturing and sustainability. You will ensure products within your area of responsibility are the best they can be, with consideration given to compliance with technical policies and standards. You will be responsible for managing the technical relationship with suppliers and factories and implementing improvements to products and processes where required and based on returns data and customer feedback
Our factory is based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire so there will be a need to visit this site regularly for meetings, as well as travel overseas to meet with suppliers as required, so you'll need to be able to travel as needed for this role.
Daily responsibilities include:
Supporting the business in areas relevant to product design, product engineering, product development, product compliance, quality and sourcing.
Your experience and knowledge of manufacturing techniques, quality systems, process development and continuous improvement will bring you into daily contact with the buying, design, customer services and supply chain teams based in the UK.
Work closely with W&D and supporting functions leading monthly meetings to assess quality, damages and feedback
Work closely with suppliers & factories in China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Europe offering technical support in a timely manner and responding to issues with authority and in line with our quality processes.
At all key stages from initial design to sealed samples you will work on the technical development of the product, ensuring designs are safe, durable, fit for purpose and meet due diligence requirements as well as evaluating potential product performance issues.
Work with design and buying teams on a daily basis ensuring product briefs are fulfilled to meet expectations, within agreed timeframes and sourcing constraints
Support suppliers in resolving technical & quality problems arising during product design and development, actively proposing cost effective solutions and resolving problems without compromising design integrity.
Responsible for assessing product suitability including but not limited to performance and durability, testing and functionality, labelling, packaging, care and assembly instructions to ensure all products are well executed in terms of construction, finish, raw materials, components, packaging, labelling and to an agreed quality and customer expectations.
Ensure all products are compliant with current legislation such as UK and EU legal regulations and environmental standards.
Ensure the appropriate testing is carried out for all new and current lines in a timely manner and aligned with the agreed critical path and launch trackers.
Create, build and maintain strong relationships with agents and suppliers notifying those where quality standards have not been met, holding them accountable for manufacturing defects and poor service in support of improving the supplier and product performance
Review factory evaluations, factory quality management systems, audit and corrective action plan reports as required in order to meet the needs of the business.
Regularly review and improve the quality of all aspects of the products in the range within agreed performance criteria
Research, understand the provide advice to the teams on manufacturing techniques and processes for new and existing product and materials.
Manage and Mentor the training and support of quality team members with their development.
Compile and update current Quality policies and procedures where required to ensure compliance with regulations, our standard and industry standards where applicable.
