What's the role -
Reporting to the Brockville Plant Manager, the role of the Plant Engineer and Maintenance Manager is to provide maintenance and operations engineering support, maintenance team leadership, as well as to coordinate and deliver small capital projects at the Shell Brockville Lube Oil Blending Plant.
The successful candidate will be part of the extended Brockville Management Team, and will work closely with the Americas Performance & Development team to deliver capital and other growth opportunities in the plant.
This role requires someone who enjoys multi-discipline (mechanical, civil, chemical, electrical, process control, etc.) work. The role is a combination of project design/management, technical support to plant operations, and maintenance team leadership.
Provide Operations Technical Support (OTS) to Bulk, Packaging and Warehouse operations.
Ensure Safe Production (ESP): work with Operations to ensure the asset can operate cost effectively within safe and optimal limits.
Plan and deliver plant changes within Management of Change (MOC) process.
Drive compliance with regulatory requirements in areas of HSSE, engineering and construction.
Drive robust design and engineering practices in accordance with Shell Lubricants Portfolio Requirement Standards (PRS) and Design Engineering Practices (DEP).
Work with Operations and Performance to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Identify and deliver Continuous Improvement opportunities within plant operations.
Support plant critical document and drawing control.
Support plant compliance with HSSE (Control Framework) and Quality (ISO, IATF) requirements, including audit participation and closure.
Informal coach to front-line Operations staff in aspects of engineering and asset integrity.
Provide plant Maintenance & Reliability Engineering support and leadership
Technical assurance and delivery of LGAME-ME: Lubricants Global Asset Management Excellence - Maintenance Execution. Support maintenance in coordinating day-to-day activities.
Support Maintenance in delivering yearly Unit Plant OPEX plan.
Hold contract owner and/or holder role in maintenance contract management.
Support Regional Reliability Engineer in developing and maintaining asset management system.
Support Regional Reliability in delivering Risk-Based Inspection program (tanks, piping).
Support Regional Reliability in causal learning and root cause analysis.
Informal coach to front-line Maintenance staff in aspects of engineering and asset integrity.
Lead the continual optimization of the preventative maintenance programs and strategic design/implementation options to complement the long term business goals.
Conduct technical reviews of transitioning products to determine impacts to site process and production capabilities, and updating operating procedures as required, to reflect process changes
Coach and mentor direct reports (5) to perform at their best
Deliver plant capital projects.
End-to-end delivery of small capital projects and equipment purchases (
Support Regional Engineering in scope definition and execution of Asset Integrity and Business Development capital projects (>$250K USD headline).
Accountable for ensuring the high standards of HSSE Management and Goal Zero are applied in all aspects of capital projects.
Support Business Development in front-end capital assessments of plant opportunities.
Deliver CAPEX on budget, on time, and assured per LSC Project Management System.
Deliver REVEX on budget and on time: Pre-FID engineering and other OPEX-for-CAPEX activities.
Incorporate sustainability into capital projects across all project phases.
Hold contract user and holder role in capital contract management.
Provide indirect leadership to 2 Project Field Coordinators and project contractors across multiple disciplines.
Dimensions:
The Shell Brockville Lube Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) is located in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. Brockville is one of 40 LOBPs in Lubricants Supply Chain (LSC), falling under the Global Commercial class of business within Shell Downstream.
With a current throughput of approximately 130 ML/yr and capacity of 350 ML/yr, Brockville LOBP produces approximately 165 formulations of automotive, aviation and industrial lubricating oils across >900 finished product SKUs. Products range across bulk rail and truck, 975L tote, 205L drum, 20L pail, 5L (gallon) and 1L (quart) small bottle. The plant’s 115 bulk storage tanks, 2 in-line blenders (ILB) and 2 auto-batch blending kettles (ABB) are fully automated with receiving, loading and packaging via the plant Distributed Control System with full ERP (GSAP) integration.
Capital projects vary in scope in complexity, typically ranging in size from $50K to $5M USD and in number from 10-20 projects active at a given time.
The successful candidate will be accountable for plant-wide maintenance including both automated inline & batch process blending, bulk storage, handling and packaging equipment, warehouse, utilities (compressors, hot oil furnace, steam boilers, heat tracing & pigging controls etc.), buildings, waste water effluent treatment and fire protection system. Maintenance priority setting is accomplished through ongoing reviews of preventative maintenance, project and breakdown work orders. This role includes external contract management for services such as HVAC, tank inspectors, instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, welding, plumbing, grounds keeping, janitorial, forklift maintenance, roofers, painters, civil contractors (paving) and Honeywell PCS controls service.
Team leadership of 4 maintenance millwrights and one maintenance scheduler in the successful execution of their roles in concert with desired business performance and objectives is required.
Skills and Requirements
What we need from you -
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Minimum of 5 years of engineering and/or project management experience.
Bachelor's degree; Accreditation with a professional association (PEO) preferred.
Proven experience in a Manufacturing, Industrial or Oil & Gas environment an asset.
Previous leadership / supervision experience an asset.
