Job Description:
We need a Production Superintendent to safely deliver challenging targets for production, reliability / availability, and cost; leveraging Shell processes to deliver safe and profitable production. Safety leadership, resilience, and People development are key elements for the role.
What’s the role?
Reporting to the Alberta Light Tight Oil (ABLTO) Operations Manager, the ABLTO Production Superintendent will champion growth priority for Unconventionals asset to add value to the business and close our gap to potential by leveraging industry best practices and digitalization to deliver safe, competitive, and affordable barrels.
More specific duties include:
Safely deliver challenging targets for production, reliability/availability, and cost
Serve as Incident Commander during Emergency Response
Champion & embed digitalization in culture, expectations, and ways of working
Remote Operations Center (ROC aka The Control Room) – help develop the vision for the ROC’s “Point C” and empower the team to deliver it
iShales – including Pulse, Pulse Mobile, Surveillance Hub, and other elements of the Intelligent Pads & Smart Operations effort
Champion & help lead asset’s Asset Management System (AMS) implementation
Site Process Owner (SPO) for Ensure Safe Production (ESP)
Motivate and manage team of Shell and contract personnel
Develop and maintain succession, training, reward, and D&I plans in alignment with Shell's principles
Reinforce culture of continuous improvement
Integrate & collaborate with:
Support Services team – to safely execute surface and subsurface (well intervention / WRFM) maintenance
Engineering & Surveillance teams – to understand root cause, reduce deferment, maintain operating integrity, and manage change
Commercial team – to manage operational execution of and compliance with 3rd party contracts, and to identify and execute blending opportunities that improve netbacks
3rd party processors (i.e. Pembina, CNRL, Semcams) – to maintain field-level operational relationships
Integrated Production System (IPS) team – to contribute operational perspective on weekly performance
Wells & Projects – to proactively and safely manage surface and subsurface SIMOPs, and manage field-level relationships with certain 3rdparties used across the functions
Integrated Activity Plan (IAP) team – to ensure the plan can be safely executed by Operations
Logistics team – to safely and cost effectively manage liquids transport
Actively participate in the Superintendent Network
Drive consistency across UPU, share best practices, and implement learnings in the asset

Significant years of experience including operation of oil and gas plants and sour gas facilities
Knowledge of Asset Management Systems
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and stretch a large team in the delivery of business objectives while still fostering a fun, inclusive and respectful workplace environment aligned with Shell’s core values
Proven track record of humble leadership, excellent coaching skills, and ability to develop staff in their leadership and technical skills
Can communicate effectively, building effective relationships with other groups outside direct span of control, manage interfaces, and work collaboratively with senior management, external bodies, peers, and all level of employees within direct organization
