Who we’re looking for

Shell is looking for highly ambitious and safety-conscious candidates as a Student Operators / Power Engineering Technology student for our Shell Scotford Complex near Fort Saskatchewan, AB.


Student Practicum - 1st year Power Engineering students (4-month term; May – August 2020)
Computer Managed Learning (CML) Practicum – 1st year CML students (6-month term; May – November 2020)
Graduate Term – 2nd year Power Engineering students (6-month term; May – November 2020)


The Student Operator will gain steam time toward his/her Power Engineering certification and may have the opportunity to experience more than one process unit on the site. You will work under the direction and supervision of a qualified shift operator.

Duties will include unit rounds, monitoring equipment, helping prepare equipment for maintenance and other duties as required. Student will also do sampling and testing.

PLEASE NOTE: You MUST be currently enrolled in a Power Engineering program in Canada in order to be eligible for this opportunity. Relocation is not provided for this role.

Requirements:

Who we’re looking for

Must be enrolled in a Power Engineering Technology program (finishing first year of program in April/May) or a 4 th Class Certification course requiring steam hours to complete either your 4 th or 3 rd ABSA certifications


Must be legally entitled to work in Canada for anyone other than current employer
Must possess a valid driver's license
Willing to work nights, weekends, holidays
Willing to work a rotating shift schedule
Able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces
Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather
Must reside within the area or be willing to relocate at your own expense for the duration of your student term with us
Using safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level
Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
Willing to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures
Willing to work in a diverse and team-oriented environment
